This video is sort of misleading, instead of explaining what a Faustian Bargain is, it is instead implying that the scenario presented in the video is a Faustian Bargain. You'd have to know what a Faustian Bargain is in the first place to fully understand this video.

When one finds an absence of meaning, their is a simple solution. Instead of looking to Gaia or Eden (Nature or God) and asking why. Become why, exist merely to exist and create your meaning along the steps you take

They were staving on the farms, you don't know what you are talking on about. Yes, they had little freedom, but they had more than on the farms where they wouldn't get a wage, they just get resources given to them by the landlord. The landlord had more power over them than the employer.

This is an exemplary story of the Faustian Bargain. People sacrificed their freedom and choice of work for money (and boredom). faustian bargain states that what the people sacrificed-their time and intellectual curiosity- was far more valuable than the worldly benefits they received.

So back to the title what was the faustian bargain ?

There are some truths but it misleads the viewer. The greatest advancements we have made are due to specialized folks working with other specialized folks on a grander project. This video ignores that important result. An artist works with computer scientist to create a company = amazing revolutions. Being a generalist is fine, but there are major limitations there as well and it is why we have made more progress in the last 100 years than every before in history.
